Privacy Policy

Effective September 1, 2026. Last updated September 1, 2026.

WOW! Children's Museum ("WOW!", "we", "us") runs this website at wowchildrensmuseum.org. This policy explains what we collect when you use it, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

We are a small nonprofit children's museum in Lafayette, Colorado. We are not in the business of collecting or selling personal information, and we don't.

The short version

  • We collect what you type into our forms, and basic anonymous statistics about how the site is used.
  • We do not sell your information, trade it, or rent it to anyone.
  • We do not process payments on this website. Donations and tickets are handled by other companies on their own sites.
  • If a photograph on this site shows your child and you want it removed, email info@wowchildrensmuseum.org or call 303-604-2424.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you fill in a form on this site, we receive what you put in it. Depending on the form, that can include your name, email address, phone number, organization or school, the ages of the children coming with you, the date you're asking about, and anything you write in a message box.

We use forms for the mailing list, contact and general enquiries, field trip and outreach requests, birthday party enquiries, and donation requests. We ask for the least we need to answer you.

You can visit and read this whole site without giving us any of this.

Information collected automatically

When you load a page, our web server records the request in a log — the page, the time, your browser type, and your IP address. That's ordinary for any website and we use it to keep the site running and secure.

We also use Google Analytics to understand which pages people find useful. It tells us things like how many people looked at the programs page this month and roughly what part of the world they were in. It does not tell us who you are.

Children's privacy

This website is written for parents, caregivers, teachers and supporters. It is not directed at children, and we do not ask children to register, subscribe, or submit anything.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through this site, email info@wowchildrensmuseum.org and we will delete it.

Where a form asks about children (the number of children coming on a field trip, or a child's age for a program, for example) we're asking the adult making the arrangement, and we use those answers only to plan the visit.

How we use what we collect

  • To answer your question, confirm your booking, or process your request.
  • To send you our newsletters, if you asked for them.
  • To plan programs, staffing and exhibits.
  • To report to funders and grantmakers, in aggregate — how many people visited a page or attended a program, never who.
  • To keep the site working and protect it from spam and abuse.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not run behavioral advertising on this site.

Who else sees it

We share information only with the companies that help us run the Museum, and only what they need. Today those are:

Who What they handle
Moosend Our email newsletters. They hold the email addresses and names of subscribers.
Google Analytics Anonymous statistics about site usage.
Microsoft Forms Donation request submissions, which are made through a Microsoft-hosted form.
Akismet Spam filtering. Form submissions pass through it so we don't drown in junk.
Overtime Media LLC Hosts the website and its server logs.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if we need to protect the safety of a child, a guest, or our staff.

We do not sell your personal information. We never have and we have no plans to.

Payments happen somewhere else

We do not take payments on this website. When you donate, buy event tickets, register for a program, or purchase a membership online, you leave our site for a company that handles that. Your card details go to them, not to us — we never see or store them.

Those companies have their own privacy policies, which govern what happens once you're on their site. It's worth a look before you enter card details anywhere, including with us.

Punch passes, memberships and admission bought at the front desk are handled in person at the Museum.

Cookies and similar technology

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site uses them for two things: keeping the site working (remembering that you dismissed a notice, for example), and Google Analytics.

Pages that embed content from elsewhere — a social media feed, an embedded video, a map — may set their own cookies when that content loads. We don't control those.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work. If you'd rather Google Analytics didn't see you at all, Google publishes an opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

How long we keep things

Newsletter subscriptions stay until you unsubscribe. Form submissions and the correspondence that follows are kept while they're useful for planning and reporting. Server logs roll off after 10 days. Donor and membership records are kept as long as our nonprofit reporting obligations require.

Your choices

Unsubscribe. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. It works immediately and we won't email you to ask why.

Ask what we hold. Email us and we'll tell you what we have about you.

Correct it. If something's wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.

Delete it. Ask and we'll remove what we're not required to keep.

Colorado residents have rights under the Colorado Privacy Act, including access, correction, deletion, a portable copy, and opting out of targeted advertising and the sale of personal data. We don't sell data or run targeted advertising, so the last of those doesn't arise. We extend all of these to anyone who asks, whether or not the law requires it of an organization our size.

To exercise any of this, email info@wowchildrensmuseum.org or write to us at the address below. We'll respond within 10 days and usually much sooner.

Security

We keep the site patched, encrypt traffic with HTTPS, limit who on staff can see form submissions, and use a managed host that takes backups. No website can promise perfect security, and we won't pretend otherwise, but we don't hold much worth stealing — no card numbers, no financial records, no health information.

Links to other places

This site links out to ticketing platforms, donation pages, partner organizations, and our social media accounts. Once you follow one of those links you're on someone else's site, under their rules. We're not responsible for what they do with your information.

Accessibility

We want this site to work for everyone. If something here is hard to use with a screen reader, keyboard, or any assistive technology, email accessibility@wowchildrensmuseum.org and tell us. We'd rather hear about it than not.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so in a newsletter rather than hoping you notice.
