Summer Classes

Keep your kids busy this summer by enrolling in our fun, hands-on art and science classes! Summer classes are offered onsite to children Pre-K to 3rd Grade. Designed for hands-on engagement, the classes are 45-60 minutes long and make learning each topic fun and accessible. Stay and play at the Museum before or after class at a discounted rate!  Advanced registration is required for all classes.

CLASS TOPICS:

Make a Clay Fish – Tuesday, July 11th

  • Time: 3:00pm-4:00pm
  • Ages: K-3rd Grade
  • Learn how to make an easy salt dough clay. Then sculpt that clay into a fish, harden the creation, and paint your creature before you take it home!

Science of Ice Cream #1 – Wednesday, July 12th

  • Morning Class: 10:30am-11:15am
  • Afternoon Class: SOLD OUT
  • Ages: 3- 8 years (ages 3-5 years must be with a guardian)
  • Learn about liquids and solids while making ice cream, then eat your yummy results! ALLERGY WARNING: all students will make and eat ice cream using cow’s milk and cream.

Create a Self-Portrait – Tuesday, July 18th

  • Time: 3:00pm-4:15pm
  • Ages: K-3rd Grade
  • We look at ourselves in the mirror every day, but drawing a self-portrait can still be tricky!  Study the proportions of the face, then learn to draw and paint a self-portrait. We will use a variety of pigments, including wet paint, so please dress for mess!

Watercolor Painting – Tuesday, July 25th

  • Time: 3:00pm-4:00pm
  • Ages: 3-8 years (ages 3-5 years must be with a guardian)
  • Discover the magic of watercolors! Explore the transparency and glow of this medium, experiment by adding others, and create your own work of art.

Pirate Ship Makers – Tuesday, August 1st

  • Time: 10:00am-11:00am
  • Ages: 3-8 years (ages 3-5 years must be with a guardian)
  • Ahoy all ye pirates and little makers! Find out what happens when buccaneers use duct tape. Build your very own pirate ship and test its seaworthiness.

  • Ages: 3-8 years (ages 3-5 years must be with a guardian)

Stay & Play Discount: Children can explore the Museum for only $7 before or after class! Simply pay the discounted admission fee when you check-in for class.  Standard adult admission applies.

Refund Policy: WOW! will issue a credit to a future class if student is unable to attend class. WOW! will only refund class fee if the Museum cancels a class.

Please Note: Adults must accompany all children 3-5 years old in case that child requires assistance or needs to leave class early. Children who are 5 years old and accompanied by an adult are welcome in classes for grades K-3. An adult may accompany multiple children who are registered for the same class; please leave younger siblings at home.

Registration:

Class size is limited – you must register your child in advance to guarantee a space! The Museum is handling all class registration through Altru, and credit card payment is required.
